Over the next few Sundays, Jan 18–Feb 15, we will engage with 1 Corinthians as we explore what it means to be a church, a community, an intentional collective on a shared mission. You will hear some of my vision for this year as I have spent time with you, with God, and with scripture—listening for where God is leading us. And I do mean us.
You have heard me say before that we are a diverse congregation—shaped by different families, faith histories, and places. While we share a common life together, the ways we practice faith, seek belonging, and encounter God are not the same. That diversity shapes who we are becoming, and we are still learning these things about one another.
We gather each week sharing space, worship, and purpose—but not always stories. Many of us have been here a long time—and still, in real ways, are just beginning to be known. That can feel tender, yet it is also holy ground. Not fully knowing one another leaves room to listen, to learn, and to be changed. Community is not something we arrive at fully formed—it is something we practice with intention.
My hope is that on Sundays, Wednesdays, and beyond, we will seek out those we do not yet know well. Scripture reminds us that we are alike in many ways—even as the world pushes us toward division. Rooted in Christ, we are united. Our work is to notice what keeps us from seeing both our shared humanity and the beauty of difference. Let us be curious, open, and attentive to how God might move us toward God’s dream for us.
